Last December my son picked his MLS Cup winner because he liked their socks. That was the entire reasoning, and he was right, and his uncle (who’d watched more or less every game since March and had opinions about all of them) was wrong, which is a thing our family still brings up at dinner more than strictly necessary.
So this MLS playoff bracket printable is built for a house like ours, where some people follow the standings and some people pick by sock color. The PDF has the full bracket, plus a much simpler sheet for little kids and a points game so you can all play against each other. There’s a scorecard for the final too.
Free. No email.
One thing to know first: nobody knows the 18 playoff teams yet. That gets settled on Decision Day, Saturday 7 November, and we’ll add every team name to the PDF the next morning. Until then you can print the blank one and write them in yourself.
Updated 8 November: all 18 teams and seeds are now filled in on the PDF.
How the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs Work
Eighteen teams get in, nine from the Eastern Conference and nine from the Western.
The top seven in each conference go straight into Round One. Seeds 8 and 9 don’t, so they play each other first in a one-off Wild Card game, and whoever wins earns the slightly terrifying reward of playing the No. 1 seed.
Round One is where people get confused, and honestly I had to read it twice. It’s best of three. Win two games and you’re through, and there’s no adding up goals across the games. If a Round One game is level at full time, it goes straight to penalties with no extra time, so every single game has a winner.
After that it’s simple again. The Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals are one game each, and so is MLS Cup, East champion against West champion. Those later games get two 15-minute periods of extra time before penalties if it’s still tied.
Our bracket gives each Round One series three little boxes, one per game. Trust me, you’ll want them.
Key Dates
| Stage | 2026 date |
| Decision Day | Saturday 7 November |
| Wild Card | Wednesday 18 November |
| Round One | 20 November to 2 December |
| Conference Semifinals | 5 and 6 December |
| Conference Finals | 11 and 12 December |
| MLS Cup | Friday 18 December |
MLS says the Round One dates could still shift a little, so it’s worth a quick check before you plan a whole evening around one.
How to Fill In Your MLS Playoff Bracket
Start on the outside edges, where the seeds go. If you’ve got the filled version from 8 November that’s done for you; if not, copy them off the standings.
Next, the two Wild Card games. Pick a winner in each and write it in next to the No. 1 seed it’ll face.
Then Round One. You only have to pick who wins each series, but if you’re the competitive sort you can also guess whether it goes to a third game. (My brother-in-law does this. He’s also the one who laminated his bracket last year.)
Work inwards from there: semifinals, then each conference final, then your champion in the box in the middle. Stick it on the fridge and cross out the wrong picks as you go. By the second week of December ours usually looks like a crossword someone gave up on.

A Simpler Sheet for Younger Kids
A full 18-team bracket is a lot to ask of a 5-year-old.
The kids sheet keeps it to two questions, who’ll win the East and who’ll win the West, and then which of those two lifts the cup. Underneath there’s a big empty shield where they get to design a brand new crest for the winning team.
My daughter’s crests always have a cat in them. No MLS team has ever had a cat on its badge, as far as I know, and she has made it very clear she doesn’t see why that’s her problem.

The Family Prediction Game
Everyone fills in their own bracket before the Wild Card games on 18 November, and you keep score as the results come in. Picks get worth more the further you go: a correct Wild Card winner is 1 point, a Round One series winner is 2, each Conference Semifinal is 3, each conference champion is 4, and the MLS Cup winner is 5.
Get every pick right and that’s 43 points. That won’t happen. I’ve never seen anyone get past about 25.
There’s a bonus of 3 points for guessing the exact score of the final, which is mostly there so a little kid who’s fallen behind still has a shot on the last night. The points sheet has room for six players. In our house the winner picks what we have for dinner on 18 December, and I’m not saying the stakes are too high, but there was a pizza-related incident in 2024.

On the Night: MLS Cup Scorecard
The final is on Friday 18 December, in primetime, which for a lot of kids means a late night, so it helps to give them a job.
The scorecard has spaces for the half-time and full-time score, who scored and in which minute, any yellow cards, and their own player of the match. There’s also a corner kick tally. I didn’t expect the tally to be the popular bit, but small kids will sit and watch a whole half just waiting for the next corner so they can add a line.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is MLS Cup 2026?
MLS Cup 2026 is on Friday 18 December, in primetime. It’s hosted by whichever of the two finalists had the better regular-season record, so we won’t know the city until after the Conference Finals on 11 and 12 December. The playoffs themselves start a month earlier, with the Wild Card games on 18 November.
How many teams make the MLS playoffs?
Eighteen of the league’s 30 teams, nine from each conference. Seeds 1 to 7 go straight into Round One, while seeds 8 and 9 play a one-game Wild Card match to decide who takes the last spot. That’s why the bracket has 16 teams in Round One but 18 names down the sides.
How does the best-of-3 Round One work?
The higher seed hosts Game 1 and, if it’s needed, Game 3. The lower seed hosts Game 2. The first team to win two games goes through. Goals don’t carry over between games, and a game that’s tied at the end goes straight to penalties with no extra time, so there are never any draws in this round.
What happens if MLS Cup is tied?
The final gets two 15-minute periods of extra time, played in full. If it’s still level after that, it’s decided on penalties. The same rule applies in the Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals, but not in the Wild Card or Round One, which go straight to penalties.
When will the bracket have the team names on it?
On Sunday 8 November, the day after Decision Day. Until then the PDF has seed numbers and blank lines, so you can print it early and fill it in as the last regular-season games finish. If you download it again after 8 November, you’ll get the version with all 18 teams written in.
Where can I watch MLS Cup in the US and Canada?
Every playoff game, including the final, streams on Apple TV in English and Spanish. MLS Cup is also shown on FOX in the US and on TSN and RDS in Canada. Other playoff games are on FOX, TSN or RDS too, but not all of them, so check the listings for each round.
Is this MLS playoff bracket printable free?
Yes, completely. There’s no email form and no sign-up: you click the button and the PDF downloads. Print as many copies as you like for your family, a watch party or a classroom.
