12 Snowman Coloring Pages (Free Printable)

There’s a moment every winter when the first real snow falls and every kid in the house presses their nose to the window. Then they want to build a snowman. Right now. Never mind that there’s barely an inch out there and it’s mostly slush. Sometimes you can’t go out, because it’s too cold, it’s too dark by four o’clock, or someone’s just getting over a cold and you’re not risking it, and that’s where these snowman coloring pages come in. Problem solved.

There are 12 pages at three levels, plus a cut-and-glue Build a Snowman activity, all in one free PDF with no email form. None of them are Christmas pages, so they’ll work just as well on a gray afternoon in February.

Easy Snowman Coloring Pages (Ages 2 to 5)

The easy pages have one big snowman each, with thick lines and lots of room. They’re made for chunky crayons and small hands that don’t stay inside the lines. That’s fine. Snow’s white anyway. So a toddler can color the hat, the scarf and the carrot nose and call it finished. I’d call that a win. So would they.

Medium Pages (Ages 6 to 8)

These have a little scene behind each snowman. There’s a half-built snowman with a spare snowball and a shovel, a whole snowman family, a snowman wobbling on ice skates, and one zooming downhill on a sled. The lines are thinner, but the spaces are still a good size for colored pencils, so a six-year-old who’s just starting to care about staying inside the lines won’t end up frustrated halfway through the scarf. Kids this age love giving the family names. Ours got four, plus a dog. Don’t ask me why the dog’s called Carrot, because I’ve honestly never gotten a straight answer out of anyone, and I’ve asked more than once.

Detailed Pages (Ages 9 and Up)

Older kids get a snowman mandala, a snowman filled with patterns, a snowman inside a snow globe and big “Hello Winter” outline letters. They’re best with fine-tip markers or sharp pencils, and they take a while, which is exactly what you want on the third snow day in a row when everyone’s already watched every movie in the house twice. Honestly, they’re the ones the grown-ups end up stealing. Fair enough.

Build a Snowman (Cut and Glue)

This is the one that keeps a preschool table busy. Really busy. One page has all the pieces: three snowballs, hats, scarves, carrot noses, eyes, buttons and stick arms. The other page is a snowy scene with a big empty space in the middle.

Kids color the pieces, cut them out, and build their own snowman on the scene. You’ll get snowmen with three hats, snowmen with arms on their heads, and snowmen with no face at all. Every single one’s right, and if you ask the builder to tell you about theirs, you’ll get a story that’s longer and stranger than anything you’d have come up with yourself. It’s great for scissor practice, and if your child can’t cut yet, you can cut the pieces and let them do the gluing. That’s the fun part anyway, and you won’t hear any complaints.

Ways to Use Them

  • Snow day at home: print a few easy and medium pages and keep them in a drawer for when school’s canceled.
  • Preschool or kindergarten: pair the Build a Snowman activity with a winter story, then hang the snowmen in the hall.
  • Counting practice: ask little ones to count the buttons on each snowman, or glue on exactly five buttons in Build a Snowman.
  • Indoor recess: the detailed pages are perfect for older kids who’ve had enough of board games.

FAQs

Are these snowman coloring pages free?

Yes. All 12 pages and the Build a Snowman activity are in one free PDF with no sign-up and no email form. Print as many copies as you need for home or a classroom. Please don’t sell them or upload the PDF to another site.

What age are the snowman pages for?

The easy pages suit ages 2 to 5, the medium ones ages 6 to 8, and the detailed pages ages 9 and up, grown-ups included. The Build a Snowman activity works best for ages 3 to 6. Pick by how confident your child is with a crayon rather than strictly by age. They’ll tell you soon enough if a page is too easy.

How does the Build a Snowman activity work?

Print both pages, then let kids color the pieces and cut them out. They glue the snowballs onto the scene first, then add a hat, scarf, nose, eyes, buttons and arms however they like. There’s no wrong way to do it. Card stock makes the pieces easier to handle, but plain paper’s fine.

Are these Christmas coloring pages?

No, they’re winter pages, so there are no trees, presents or Santa in them. That means you can use them from the first snow right through to February. If you’d like Christmas pages too, we’ve got a separate set of Christmas coloring pages with their own snowman and snowman family.

What’s the best way to color a snowman white?

You don’t have to color the snow at all, since the paper’s already white. Kids can color the hat, scarf and nose, then shade the edges of the snowballs with light blue or gray to make them look round. Coloring the sky dark blue really makes a white snowman stand out. It’s a neat trick, and it’s one older kids can’t stop doing once they’ve seen it.

Can I use these in my classroom?

Yes, they’re free for home and classroom use. You can print a full set for every child, put them in a winter packet or use them as an early-finisher activity. Teachers often pair the Build a Snowman pages with a winter story or a counting lesson.
